FIRST FEDERAL SAVINGS BANK DONATES TO THE YMCA BUILDING PROJECT

First Federal Savings Bank and the Steve Zahn & Michael Zahn families have made a $175,000 pledge to the new Parkview Huntington YMCA Building project. The funds will be applied towards the gymnasium portion of the facility, with one of the courts being named the First Federal Court.

The new gymnasium will consist of two side courts, which are approximately the size of the current YMCA gym, and one main high school sized court. The gym will have a wooden floor. Programs being planned for the gymnasium include youth basketball, indoor soccer, youth and adult volleyball, gymnastics, adult basketball, tournaments, special events and a batting cage. Additional programs will be developed for the gym as a volunteer committee is exploring different options. An indoor track will be suspended around the gymnasium as well.

First Federal Savings Bank and the Zahns feel that the YMCA is a vital asset to our community. "The Y as played an important role in this community for over 75 years and we feel that it will continue to prosper in its new location" states Michael Zahn, President of First Federal Savings Bank. He continues, "We feel honored to be a part of Huntington and have the opportunity to give back to this community."

The YMCA facility continues to move forward. Providing the construction stays on schedule, the anticipated opening date is scheduled for November 2008. To date, the YMCA has raised $7.5 million of the $9.1 million needed to complete the project. Additional pledges are needed from the community. To make a pledge, contact the YMCA at 356-4200 or stop by the current office at 607 Warren Street.
